Wajib Sajdah in the Qur'an

February 05, 2025

It has come to our attention that there is discrepancy among different Qur'ans with respect to the verse after which the Wajib Sajdah should be performed.

As we are all aware Sajda is Wajib after 4 Ayahs in the Qur’an – These are in the 21st, 24th, 27th and 30th Siparahs

Attention is drawn to the Ayah in the 24th Siparah – Surah 41 [ Surah-e-Fussilat/Ha-mim Sajdah]

Some Qur'ans mark it after Verse 38 while others mark it after Verse 37,

Ayatullah al-Sistani (dz) has ruled that "it is wajib to do sajdah when saying ta'budun" in Verse 37 of Surah 41" (Minhaj, V.1, p. 222, Rule # 654).

Mumineen are, therefore, humbly requested to check the Qur'an(s) that they regularly use for recitation to see the verse after which the mark for Wajib Sajdah is shown. It should be after Verse 37 but if it is shown after Verse 38, then manually change it to Verse 37.

The other three surahs (al-Sajdah, al-Najm and al-'Alaq) in which Wajib Sajdah occurs, they are all shown after the same verse in all Qur'ans.
